Zazios in Birmingham, MI

This is my first review on here and I am so very excited!!!

Zazios, opened up recently, maybe a month or two ago in Birmingham, but they have been open for quite some time in their initial location in Ann Arbor.
Well, first, anything in Birmingham needs to be hip, upscale and quite pricey, thats what it's known for and thats what people expect!
This is exactly what I was expecting when I made reservations there last Friday... (you can make them online, through OpenTable.com)

As we (my husband and myself) arrived on Woodward and Maple rd, the valet parking quickly whisked away our car and wished us an joyful meal...SO FAR, SO GOOD!
From here on out, downhill.... The hostess told us that our 7pm reservation was canceled because "we don't hold reservations for more than 15-20 min". After looking at her watch (it was 7:15) she looked to talk to her manager... the Manager in turn, said it was OK and left. The hostess told us our table will be ready soon, and we told her we would wait  by the bar. (Note: being a slightly shallow person, I do pay attention to how the staff present themselves, and the hostess was dressed in faded black clothes, and her hair looked like it hasn't been brushed in 2-3 days, and though this may not be that important to anyone, this is a brand new Birmingham restaurant we are talking about!)
Our wait was not short, we managed to drink out cocktails by the bar, meet up with friends and wait some more to be seated... so much for making reservations! By 8:30 we had our table!

My husband judges a restaurant by the bread they serve! He usually eats the majority of the bread basket, and his review was not good. the bread basket comes with 2 spreads, one is an olive spread and the other is an Italian version of hummus. The hummus one was very nice, but the olive was unbearable!

Next we ordered a bottle of wine and appetizers, the wine I ordered was an inexpensive Italian wine, made by Tenuta, which can get pretty expensive for some vintage bottles... but this one was around $30.... The waitress left for about 20 min and came back to tell me they were out of it, but for $5 more there was a similar bottle available... The wine was delicious, too bad I was too mad by that time to note the name of it :(
Appetizers were a deep fried vegetable dish, for our friends and the carpaccio for us! I must tell you all this now, I LOVE CARPACCIO! and this carpaccio did not disappoint me, the meat was sliced extremely thin, the cream sauce was not over powering and the greens were complemented pleasantly... The deep fried veggies were great as well, the presentation was superb in a  newspaper like basket.
For the main course I had the 4-cheese ravioli, with truffle oil. Here is my verdict on that: You put truffle oil on anything, and it will taste AMAZING!
We didn't have dessert :( we were stuffed as the portions were not small....

FINAL VERDICT

Service: Hosts and manager not the most polite people you'll meet but the waitress was knowledgeable and over all quick (minus the wine) 2 stars out of 5 (for the waitress)

The Food: slightly on the fatty side, but as previously noted truffle oil fixes everything! 2.5 stars out of 5 (nothing extra special for the money)

The Ambiance: I mean come on, we are in Birmingham, it was an open floor plan, very modern design, lots of color, GREAT! 4.5 stars out of 5

Last but not least!
*Zazios offers a live cooking manu, wher ethe  chef prepares melas in front of a large table which is shared by about 20 people! there are 2 price options with and without wine ,adn includes 4 courses... This maybe the only reason why I may return to Zazio for another try!

Let me know what you thought of Zazios!

Nice Day Foodzies!!!
